Studying abroad offers not only the chance to build language skills and gain specialized knowledge, but also a valuable experience that connects people and cultures and can change lives. Ella, a student majoring in politics and international relations in the UK, chose Chukyo University’s exchange program, "CSEP" (Chukyo University Student Exchange Program). For her, the greatest attraction of CSEP was its compelling combination of high-level "Collaborative Intercultural Learning Courses" and rich "Hands-on Experience". From her very first day, she was welcomed by a spacious, clean, and modern campus filled with vibrant study spaces, green open areas, and friendly staff and students who instantly made her feel at home. 

Ella chose Chukyo University over other options precisely because CSEP offers the perfect balance between academic study and real-world cultural immersion.

A central highlight of her academic journey within CSEP was the recommended course "International Politics," an exemplary collaborative intercultural learning space where exchange students and Japanese peers debate global issues on equal footing in English. Studying serious political topics alongside Japanese students provided her with new historical perspectives and deeper political insights. Guided skillfully by the professor, group discussions created an open environment where students could exchange views equally, fostering close bonds and meaningful friendships.






Equally integral to her experience were CSEP’s signature "Hands-on Experience" programs, which allowed Ella to engage directly with the local community through school visits and cultural initiatives. Teaching at a local elementary school offered her a heartwarming glimpse into Japanese primary education as she played traditional games with energetic children, while her visit to Chukyo University Senior High School allowed her to exchange ambitious thoughts on future careers and play sports with local students. Above all, the undisputed highlight of these activities was the rare and extraordinary Sumo Internship. Stepping into the world of Japan’s iconic national sport gave her a truly captivating look at a side of Japanese culture that very few international students ever get to experience firsthand. Ella was profoundly impressed by the intense level of training and strategy involved, as well as the unwavering discipline and deep-rooted mutual respect demonstrated by the wrestlers as they prepared for matches. Observing this dedicated mindset up close gave her a deep, lasting appreciation for the sacred spirit of Japanese traditions. 

Whenever challenges arose, particularly with language barriers at first, Chukyo University's robust support system was always there. The staff at the Global Experience Center (GEC), along with members of VOICE (the student support group for exchange students) and her Japanese classmates, consistently provided warm guidance and patience, ensuring she never felt alone.

Through her studies and community interactions, Ella gained essential communication skills and broadened her global perspective. Looking forward, her time at Chukyo University has solidified her desire to pursue an international career in diplomacy or international business. The skills she cultivated at Chukyo—debating complex global topics, building meaningful connections across cultures, and communicating effectively—will serve as a lifelong foundation for her future endeavors.
