Event Report: KAKEHASHI Project 2/22/23

Canadian university students’ visit to Chukyo University as part of the KAKEHASHI Project

On February 22 and 23, Chukyo University students had cultural exchanges with 25 university students coming from Canada for the KAKEHASHI Project.

The KAKEHASHI Project is a program sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to promote understanding of Japanese politics, economy, society, culture, history, and foreign policy so that participants can promote Japan’s attractiveness to the world.

On the 1st day, VOICE, a Chukyo University student volunteer group, introduced unique Japanese culture such as school bags (Randoseru), origami, and calligraphy using brush pens.

Canadian students also enjoyed the tea ceremony in the tearoom of Yagoto Kosho-ji Temple. They learned about the tea ceremony and its manners, including sitting in a kneeling position (seiza).

On the 2nd day, 25 students from Canada participated in a home visit (homestay without overnight stay) at Chukyo University students’ homes. During this visit, they experienced Japanese food and traditions, deepening their exchanges with Japanese families.

At the heartfelt farewell party, Canadian students serenaded songs and delivered touching presentations, leaving a lasting impression of the deep bonds formed during the cultural exchange.
