Event Report: Bon Odori Festival at Chubu Centrair International Airport

A Summer to Remember: Connecting Through Japanese Tradition at the Airport

On Sunday, July 19th, exchange students studying at Chukyo University joined members of "VOICE," our international exchange student organization, for a unique cultural experience: the Centrair Bon Odori Festival at Chubu Centrair International Airport (Centrair).

Bon Odori is a cherished Japanese summer tradition, and this event offered an extraordinary setting. Held on the airport's observation deck, the "Sky Deck"—famous for being the closest spot to aircraft in Japan with refreshing sea breezes—some of our students dressed in vibrant yukata (traditional summer kimono). They enjoyed dancing against the dynamic backdrop of planes taking off and landing right before their eyes.

Dressed for the occasion, our students joined the dancing circle alongside VOICE members, travelers from around the world, and local festivalgoers. In this vibrant atmosphere illuminated by airport lights and a beautiful evening view, it was an unforgettable opportunity to connect, laugh, and dance together—transcending nationalities and generations.

This is just one of the many memorable cultural and social experiences awaiting exchange students at Chukyo University. We look forward to welcoming future students to join our vibrant community!
