1. Why did you decide to come study in Japan and choose Chukyo University?

I decided to come to Japan for a few reasons. The first reason was because I have always been interested in Japanese culture since I was young. When I was in elementary school, my brother and I would bond over our shared love of anime, especially Naruto. Another reason that I decided to come to Japan was because it was a convenient way to explore a new culture and learn more about the world and myself. I felt it would be interesting to try living alone in a foreign culture that was so different from what I was used to. Finally, I came to Japan to learn Japanese in order that I could speak with my Japanese friends more fluently and have deeper and more fulfilling relationships with them.
I chose Chukyo University because I was impressed by their mission to foster a rich and vibrant educational curriculum which encompasses not only mental but physical prowess. Furthermore, I had formed relationships with friends at Chukyo and that was a large factor in my decision to study here.

2. How do you think you have matured through your studies at Chukyo? Please share your experiences, events, or feelings while studying at Chukyo University.

I particularly enjoyed my American Literature and Culture class. This is because I found the professor to be very knowledgeable and engaging. His lectures interested me because I love to read and study literature and he introduced me to books and concepts that I had not previously studied.
I believe I have matured by learning how to adapt and flourish in an environment that I am not used to. Coming to Japan, I was initially worried that I would not do well, as I knew very little what it would be like and whether I would be able to find a community. However, I have found many kind friends who have helped me and accepted me into their lives, and I am grateful for them.
My most memorable experience turned out to be rather ordinary. As I look back on my time at Chukyo, the times that stand out the most to me are those days in which I would spend time in the GEC with all of my friends, just chatting and having a good time. I would not trade those memories for anything.

3. How do you hope to make use of this experience in the future?

For the future, I hope to finish my education and continue my studies in Japanese. I would like to use Japanese in a meaningful way and to form deeper connections with more Japanese and to continue to learn more about the culture. I also hope to contribute to forming bridges between America and Japan, and to help others be able to experience what I was able to experience. Additionally, I wish to return to Japan soon.

4. Finally, please give a message to juniors who are considering studying at Chukyo University in the future.

I wish you the best and I hope that you are able to use the experiences that you had while in Japan to further your endeavors in whatever field you may end up in. I hope that you will always remember your time in Japan and that it will encourage you during the hard times. Finally, I hope that you find a job that is both fulfilling and fun, and that it serves you and your community well.
